Onset of monsoon in India :-

• The duration of monsoon is b/w 100 - 120 days from early June to mid - September .
• The normal rainfall increases suddenly and continues for several days .
• The monsoon arrives at the southern tip of the Indian Peninsula by the first week of June , it proceeds into two - the Arabian sea branch & the Bay of Bengal branch .
• By mid June , the Arabian sea branch arrives over Saurashtra and the central part of the country .
• The Arabian sea & the Bay of Bengal branches of the monsoon merge over the northeastern part of the Ganga plains .
• By mid July , the monsoon reaches Himachal Pradesh & the rest of the country .
