In early vedic period, the cast system prevalent in the vedic times. these are following hierarchy's of Vedic times :
- The society was then divided into four varna that are Brahmin,Kshatriya,Vaishya and Sudras.
- The brahmins were at the top of the social hierarchy.
- They had knoledge of the scriptures,performed yajnas and worshiped in temples.
- The kshatriya were warriors who defended and ruled the kingdom.
- They were followed by the Vaishyas, who worked as craftsman , farmer, merchants, and traders.
- People who belongs to shudra castes treated as untouchable , they performed menial tasks such as removing human excreta, carcass,and cleaning roads. Therefore they are not allowed to enter temples.
