Double star. ... This occurs because the pair either forms a binary star (i.e. abinary system of stars in mutual orbit, gravitationally bound to each other) or is an optical double, a chance line-of-sight alignment of two stars at different distances from the observer.

Answer:

Double stars may be binary stars that rotate about a common center of mass. There are also "optical" double stars that appear to be very close to each other but are very apart even tho they have a very small angular separation. One theory is that instead of a stellar dust cloud collapsing into a star surrounded by a planetary system but instead condenses into 2 or 3 stars.
