✧ A gerund is a verbal noun.

✧ Since a gerund is a noun, we cam use articles (a, an, the), possesive adjectives (my, your, etc.) or words like some, many before it:

  • \bf{The\:climbing} was over by 10 a.m.
  • Do you mind \bf{my\:using}you phone?

✧ Gerunds can have their own adjectives:

  • His \bf{melodious\:singing} charmed everyone.
  • His \bf{rash\:driving}scared us at time.

✧ Gerunds can have their own objects:

  • \bf{Spreding\:rumours} is a crime.
  • He denied \bf{stealing \:the\: file}.

✧ Gerunds can be used after some verbs where the infinitive cannot be used:

  • The students \bf{stopped\:to\: write} when the bell rang. (wrong)
  • The students \bf{stopped\: writing}when the bell rang. (correct)
