Let's go the basics first
-----------------------------
As we know that if a body experiences a force then there must be acceleration in it.
So now where this force comes from?,that's the question.
A very simple answer to this is that the force generates from a field , it may be electric field or magnetic field or gravitational field .
So whenever a body is placed in a gravitational field it experiences a force equal to mg
Since a force is experienced by the body then there must be acceleration generated in it .
So acceleration due to gravity is that acceleration which is experienced by a body when it is kept in a gravitational field.
The acceleration due to gravity varies from place to place .
It's general value is 9.8 m/s²
Dimensional formula - [LT^-2]
