What is aids?

AIDS ( acquired immunodeficiency syndrome).

It is an fatal diease caused by a dangerous virus called HIV(human immunodeficiency virus). It destroys the body's ability to fight against illness and infections.

HIV can ku or damage cells of body's immune system which slowly destroys the ability to fight infection and dieases. AIDS is the final stage of HIV infection.


What is HIV?

HIV STANDS FOR :


H- Human , because this virus can only infect humans.

I- immuno deficiency, because the effect of virus is to create deficiency to fail work , within body's immune system.

V- virus because this organism which mean one of it's characteristic that is incapable of reproducing by itself.

HIV belongs to lenti virus sub group Retroviridae family.

It is a R.N.A. virus.

It was discovered independently by LUC MONTAGNAIER in 1983 at paris and by ROB GALLO at usa in 1984.

☆ HIV negative

☆ AIDS.

Tests to detect HIV anti bodies :

▪ ELISA

▪ WESTERN BLOT TEST

▪ PCR

THE MODES OF HIV TRANSMISSION :

• sexual mode of transmission

• By transfusing HIV+ blood.

• By using HIV contaminated instruments like needles, syringes.




TREATMENT GENERALLY GIVEN FOR AIDS :

" no treatment for total cure of AIDS.
