Answer:
The alpha carbon (Cα) in organic molecules refers to the first carbon atom that attaches to a functional group, such as a carbonyl. ... A hydrogen atom attached to an alpha carbon atom is called an alpha-hydrogen atom, a hydrogen atom on the beta-carbon atom is a beta hydrogen atom, and so on.

The term “alpha” is a relative term. Its meaning changes with change in the atom or group whose “alpha” position we are talking about. The atom or group(except H) located closest(not considering bond length) i.e located at 1 position is called alpha group or alpha atom. And the H atoms bonded with the alpha atom are called alpha Hydrogen atoms. They stabilize alkenes and alkynes, and carbo cations by a process called Hyperconjugation where the alpha Hydrogen atoms must be in conjugation with the carbo cation or the π-bonds.
