Voltmeter is a device used to measure potential difference of a cell. And ammeter is device used to measure the current flowing in a circuit.

In voltmeter the shunt resistance is connected in series connection with the galvanometer but in ammeter the shunt resistance is connected in parallel connection with the galvanometer.
