hybridization is the process of crossing two genetically different individuals to result in the third individual with a different, set of traits .
the plants of the same species , cross easily and produce fertile progeny .
wide crosses are difficult to make and generally produce sterile progeny because of the chromosome pairing difficulties during meiosis.
