In humans out of 23pairs of chromosomes 22 pairs are almost identical for all, this pairs determine the somatic characters. This chromosomes are called autosomes.

Each of this pairs are set of two identical homologous chromosomes, one from mother and one from father. These pairs differ in size and character from each other.
