Buoyancy is the force that causes objects to float. It is the force exerted on an object that is partly or wholly immersed in a fluid.

Hola !

Buoyancy :

It is the phenomenon that caused due to the Buoyant Force. Buoyant Force is usually exerted on the body that is partly or completely immersed in fluid

The unit of buoyant force is the Newton (N).

The pressure in fluid is proportional to depth of the object, So pressure increases by depth;

Hence, when an object is immersed in a fluid, the pressure exerted on its bottom surface is higher than the pressure exerted on its top surface.

This difference in the pressure leads to a net upward force (buoyancy force) which opposes the gravity force and is equivalent to the weight of the fluid that would otherwise occupy the volume of the object, i.e. the displaced fluid.

Case - 1 :

If the object is less dense than the fluid, the buoyancy force will be higher than its weight and the object will float;

Case-2:

If the object is denser than the fluid, it will sink. The static balance occurs when the weight of the immersed part of the object is the same as the weight of the moving fluid, i.e. the densities coincide.

Examples :

Some of the examples of phenomena ruled by buoyancy forces are :

• A rising bubble (gas into liquid)

• A falling droplet (liquid into gas) and

• Ships in Sea.
