Answer:

The force exerted by the liquid on the the object in upward direction is called buoyant force. It is also known as upthrust.

If the density of object is less than density of liquid then the object will float. If the density of object is more than the density of liquid then the object will sink.

Archimedes principle states that when an object is immersed fully or partially in liquid it experiences and upward force that is equal to weight to liquid displaced by it.

Density can be defined as the density of an object is the mass per unit volume.

The SI unit of density is kg/m³.

The relative density of substance is defined as the ratio of density of substance to the density of water. It has no unit because it is the ratio of the same quantity.

ANSWER

Buoyant force

when an object is immersed fully or partially into a liquid or gas then a upward force is exerted by the fluid on the object , this upthrust is know as buoyant force.

it opposes the weight of an immersed object.

why does an object float or sink when placed on the surface of water?

now if a object is placed on the surface of water then it is either float or sink .

if the density of the object is lower than 1 then it will float or if the density of the object is greater than 1 then it will sink into the water.

Archimedes principal

if an object is immersed into a liquid or gas then it will displace some water ,and the weight of this water will be of it's volume .

what is density and its SI unit?

mass per unit volume is known as density.

c.g.s= gm/cm³

s.i.= kg/m³
