Carriage inwards refers to the transportation fee which the purchaser needs to pay on receiving the Merchandise, which he ordered. These are the shipping and handling cost incurred by a company over the purchaser.

Carriage inwards is also called as freight-in or transportation-in. It is one of the two expenses incurred by the company while purchasing or selling the goods, the second being carriage outwards.
