many enzymes exhibit the catalytic activity only in association with certain non protein substances are called co factors . there are three types of           co factors they are

prosthetic group , co enzymes , metal ions.

catalytic  activity  is lost when the co factor is removed from the enzyme this shows that it plays a crucial role in catalytic activity of an enzyme.
