Coordinates are two numbers (Cartesian coordinates), or sometimes a letter and a number, that locate a specific point on a grid, known as a coordinate plane. A coordinate plane has four quadrants and two axes: the x axis (horizontal) and y axis (vertical).

Answer:

The co-ordinate system was devised by Rene Descartes. It is also known as the cartesian system.

Two perpendicular lines called the x-axis (horizontal line) and the y-axis (vertical line) are drawn to each other. Then units are marked on the lines and then the position of the dot is determined by the distance from the y-axis by the x-co-ordinate and the distance from x-axis is determined by the y-co-ordinate.

the co-ordinates are written in the form-

(x,y) where 'x' is the x-coordinate or the distance from the y-axis and 'y' is the y coordinate or the distance from the x-axis.
