Answer:

Explanation:

(a) The concentration of a solution is the amount of solute present in a given quantity of the solution. (b) Given: Mass percentage of solution = 20% Mass of solution = 550 g.Mass of solute = m

Since mass percentage of solution = (mass of solute/ mass of solution) X 100

Therefore, Mass of Solute = (Mass percentage of Solution x Mass of Solution) / 100

Substituting the values we get

m = (20 x 550)/100

  = 110 g

I hope it will help you

Answer:

Concentrating a solution by 20% means to increase the solute percentage ( by mass ) by 20%.

Let us take an example. Since percentages are involved, let us take the total amount of solution as 100 g. If the solute in it is 3%, it means that solute present is 3 g and solvent is 97 g.

Now if you are concentrating the solution by another 20%, we will have 23 g solute and 77 g solvent.

We can use this in sums.

If they say that a given solution has x% concentration,

then in 100 g solution, there is x g solute and (100-x) g solvent.

Similarly, in 1000 g solution, there would be 10x g solute and 10( 100-x) g solvent.

[ Hope this helps.]
