The fossil fuels when burnt create lots of heat. However, this heat is of no use.
Thus, the energy which cannot be utilised further is called degradation of energy.
In other words, conversion of useful energy into the useless one is called degradation of energy.
More physical work generates heat energy which escapes in the form of sweat and is of no use.

Degradation of energy is conversion of energy into unusable form
OR
degradation of energy is by which energy becomes less available to do work.
EXAMPLES:
1)the electric bulb-the electric energy is converted into light energy but some energy is converted into unusable heat energy
2)a hair dryer-electric energy is converted into winds energy but some energy is converted into unusable heat energy
hence this is how there is degradation of energy.hope it helps:)
