For example :
Sodium-Na - atomic number is 11
electronic configuration is 1s²2s²2p⁶3s¹
so here 3s¹ is the differentiating electron.
Scandium- Sc- Atomic number -21
electronic configuration is 1s²2s²2p⁶3s²3p⁶4s²3d¹
so here 3d¹ is the differentiating electron.
