What do you mean by diffusion? Why do gases diffuse very fast?

Some gases like CO2, O2,etc. move across cell membrane by a process called diffusion.

Gases diffuses very fast because the gasses have large intermolecular spaces which allows the to diffuse with other gas at a fast speed.
