A diploid cell is one which has 2 sets of the each chromosome.

Humans are an example of diploid organisms. We have 2 copies of each chromosome of which one is inherited from the paternal side and the other from the maternal side.
Higher plants.

= gymnosperms
= angiosperms are also diploid.

As opposed to this, the term haploid is used for cells or organisms that carry only 1 copy of each chromosome.

Bacteria and fungi are haploid
Lower plants (algae and bryophytes) are haploid.
