What do you mean by distance covered by anything? Want do you say the shortest distance covered by a body?

Answer:

'Distance' is the total length travelled by an object. A moving object is always 'increasing' its total length moved with time. 'Curved lines' on a distance time graph indicate that the speed is changing.

Displacement is the shortest distance between the initial and the final positions of a body irrespective of the path chosen by it while distance is the actual distance covered by the body. Displacement in this case is 2r (diameter) while distance travelled is pi*r(circumference/2).

Explanation:

the length of path a body covers in x time is the distance traveled by the body in that time..

the shortest distance traveled by a body between an initial and final point is its displacement...
