Doctrine of lapse :
• Doctrine of lapse was an annexation policy started by British under East India Company that says that any kingdom in the absence of its natural heir would ultimately go into the British hands .
• It was put forward by Lord Dalhousie that first was implemented in princely state of Satara in 1848 and was protested by the Indian kings.
• Many kingdoms like Satara , Sambhalpur , Nagpur , Jhansi , Udaipur, etc were annexed under this policy
• Doctrine of Lapse finally came to an end in 1859 after widespread retaliation.
