In its simplest form the domain is all the values that go into a function, and the range is all the values that come out. But in fact they are very important in defining a function.The codomain of a function is the set of its possible outputs. In the function machine metaphor, the codomain is the set of objects that might possible come out of the machine. For example, when we use the function notation f:R→R, we mean that f is a function from the real numbers to the real numbers. By definition the range is the set of all the outputs of a function, so to find the range, we simply list the outputs {-6, -4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 6}.
