An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. The seismicity or seismic activity of an area refers to the frequency, type and size of earthquakesexperienced over a period of time

Explanation:

An earthquake also known as a tremor, quake or temblor is the shaking of the Earth's surface, resulting from the sudden release of energy in the lithosphere of the Earth that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes can vary in size from those that are so weak that they can not be felt to those that are violent enough to throw people around and destroy entire cities.

On the surface of the Earth, by shaking and displacing or disturbing the ground, earthquakes manifest themselves. The seabed may be disrupted enough to trigger a tsunami when the epicenter of a large earthquake is located offshore. Earthquakes can also trigger landslides and volcanic activity from time to time.
