The elastic limit is the value of stress upto which the material return back to their original postion (with respect to shape and size) when External force is removed
If the external force value exceeds the elastic limit, then the body can't retain its original position which means that the body loses its property of elasticity. And deformation no longer holds when external force is beyond the elastic limit.
Elastic limit marks the end of elastic behavior and beginning of material's plastic behavior.
A material will start to deform practically beyond its elastic limit which is characterised with permanent deformation. This is marked by breakage of bonds.
