The polymer chains are held Together by the weakest intermolecular forces. Elastomers become soft on heating and can be moulded into any desired shape.

The weak intermolecular forces permit the polymer to be stretched by the application of small force. A new crosslinks may be introduced in between the change the chains.

These cross- links between the change of the elastomer help it to be come back to its original position after the force is removed.
