-chemical process in which currentis passed between two electrodes through an ionized solution (electrolyte) to depositpositive ions (anions) on the negative electrode (cathode) and negative ions (cations) on the positive electrode (anode). The entire system is called electrolytic cellwhich is used in several industries such as electroplating, refining bauxite into aluminum, producing chlorine and causticsoda from table salt (sodium chloride), and in analytical techniques such as polarography. Basic principles of electrolysis were discovered by the UK scientist Michael Faraday (1791-1867) and were developed by the Swedish scientist Svante Arrhenius (1859-1927) winner of the 1903 Nobel Prize in chemistry.

here is your answer

Electrolysis is the process of passing a compound through electricity in its constituent elements when molten or in aquatic state. The term electrolysis is meant to split with the help of electric current or to break the chemical elements. For example, when electricity is passed through some droplets of sulfuric acid, it breaks down to give it its constituent elements in the form of products i.e. Hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2). Chemical Equation for Water Electrolysis is Folling
