A food web (or food cycle) is a natural interconnection of food chains and a graphical representation (usually an image) of what-eats-what in an ecological community. Another name for food web is consumer-resource system.

Many animals or insects are part of different food chains. For example, a snake may eat rat instead of small fish or a rat may also be eaten by the eagle instead of a snake. Thus different types of food chains are connected together to form the food web
