First of all we have to know that,

What is precipitate ??

Precipitate is insoluble solid substance which gets separated from the product after a chemical reaction.

Formation of precipitate

It's formation indicates that a chemical reaction took place. i.e. Formation of precipitate is characteristics of chemical reaction.

FOR EXAMPLE :-

BaCl2 + Na2SO4 ===BaSO4 + 2NaCl

In this reaction a white precipitate of

Barium sulphate is formed.

CuSO4 + H2S ===CuS + H2SO4

In this reaction a black precipitate of Copper sulphide is formed.
