Suppose....
U bought 2kg Surf Excel Washing Powder.
U got a bucket free with it...
It fell off from ur hand...
So it is called 'FREE FALL'
If the washing powder went off from ur hand, we call it 'PAID FALL' bcz u paid for it..
So we conclude that the above explanation is rubbish and wrong..
So here's the right answer:
Suppose u watched Spiderman's movie and decided to jump from the top of a building..
At the moment u jump off, the initial velocity was 0(bcz u started from rest).
There's a constant acceleration acting on ur body, that is g(acceleration due to gravity).Value=9.8m/so approx.
So assume there is no external force(such as air drag, friction, etc) acting on u.
Such fall under the gravity without having initial velocity is called a free fall.
NB:- Do not jump from heights...U will definitely broke ur bones...
So let's take another case of free fall ..
The apple that is supposed to be fell on Newton's head(he's lucky
bcz it was not a jackfruit) was in free fall..
ie the apple(neglecting air resistance) was in free fall...
Definitely, the final velocity will NOT be 0.
bcz acceleration due to gravity is acting on it...
Hope it helped u ☺️.
Was it a bit boring? Or a lot boring???

Earth's gravity attracts each object to its centre.when an object is dropped from certain height under the influence of gravitational force it begins to fall to the surface of earth. such an object is called free fall.
