Answer:

As a result of the meeting of two characteriscally contrasting air masses , the comparatively warm lightier air comes over the cold heavier air and maintains a state of equilibrium Air shift occurs in the frontal region due to the reversal of the direction of pressure gradient . Moreover , the progress of a front brings about changes in air temperature and humidy , and results in the formation of clouds in the frontal region . On the basis of nature and characteristics the fronts are classified into four groups _cold front , warm front , stationary front and occluded front .
