What do you mean by glycolysis ?

rocco1: One glucose molecule is broken down into two molecules of pyruvate in the cytoplasm. In the process of creating two pyruvates, two molecules of ATP are used but four are created. Therefore, our net chemical energy from glycolysis is two molecules of ATP

Glycolysis is the first step in the breakdown of glucose to extract energy for cellular metabolism. Most living organisms carry out glycolysis as part of their metabolism. The process does not use oxygen, and can thus take place under anaerobic conditions.
