Green Revolution refers to the large increase in production of food grains due to the use of high yielding variety (HYV)seeds.

HYV seeds is a high yielding seed which is very beneficial for farmers to grow crops. It is also known as "miracle seeds".

Need of Green Revolution

There is need of green revolution because India's agriculture was not so independent it's totally dependent on rainfall (monsoon) for growing crops.So, the production earlier was too low to meet the present need. So, to make self- reliance and to increase food production the government introduced/ started green revolution.

Success of Green Revolution in 2 phases:

1. In the first phase (mid 60s to mid 70s)

in the first phase it more likely to give result in the states like Punjab , Andhra Pradesh , Tamil Nadu etc. In the first phase only wheat crops were growing.

2.In the second phase :

In second phase it benefited to all the remaining states.
