Homologous chromosomes are those chromosomes that are found in a pair in which one chromosone is from maternal and one from patternal that having similar pattern such as same position of genes, similar length and same location of centromere. Homologous chromosome play an important role in meiosis and mitosis and take part in the process of crossing over. In a crossing over, two sister chromatids of same chromosome exchange their genetic material.
