Definition of Hybridization. Hybridization happens when atomic orbitals mix to form new atomic orbitals. The new orbitals have the same total electron capacity as the old ones. The properties and energies of the new, hybridized orbitals are an 'average' of the original unhybridized orbitals

The phenomenon of mixing of orbitals and the redistribution of their energies so as to form a new type of orbital is called hybridisation.....

I have simple method by which u can calculate the hybridisation....

1) for neutral molecules

Electron pair = SA + 1/2( G - V)

Where......

SA = surrounding atoms of Central atom

G = total valence electrons of Central atom

V = total valency of Central atom....

Ex.... CO2

2+1/2 (4-4)

=2

hybridisation sp.....
