HYDROGENATION

1)The word means to treat or react to any substance with Hydrogen.

2)In Hydrogenation generally, a compound is heated in the presence of. Platinum, palladium, rhodium, and ruthenium form highly active catalysts, which operate at lower temperatures and lower pressures of H2.

3)This process was successfully invented by Paul Sabatier in the year 1897.

4)It is a chemical process and is used in food and manufacturing industries like petrochemical industry, the pharmaceutical industry, agricultural industry.

5)Generally, fat is converted into oil by hydrogenation process and make it saturated as well.

6)Also, Catalysts are divided classified into two broad groups:>

a)homogeneous catalysts and b)heterogeneous catalysts.

Hydrogenation :- when Hydrogen gets added to unsaturated hydrocarbon to give saturated this reaction is used for the hydrogenation of liquid vegetables oils.
