what do you mean by hydrophilic and hydrophobic?

Hydrophilic - Having a strong affinity towards water, tending to dissolve in , mix with or to be wet by water.
Hydrophobic- Lacking the affinity towards water, tending to repel from being wet by water or not to absorb water.
