Income inequality within any family hints towards occupational differences among family members and the income or earning disparity among them which constitute the economic status of the family.

Explanation:

Income inequality within a family can be based on several factors such as social status of family members, differences in qualification and credentials of family members, impact of gender differences, family traditions and values, overall composition and work pattern of the family and so on.For example,it is traditionally believed in our country that the female members in a family should be completely responsible for household work and their male counterparts should engage in external occupational endeavors to earn for the family. This creates a huge earning gap between the male and female members of the family. On many occasions, some members of the family may be more qualified and skilled than the others ending up getting higher paid jobs than others. It is also possible that in a big family consisting of many family members, the women usually are compelled to stay home to take care of the family members such as the children and elderly again impeding their presence in the workforce or ability to engage in a high paid job.Hence, for several of these reasons, some family members are able to obtain a high paid employment while the others are not and either have to be unemployed or content with a low paid part time job thereby contributing family income inequality.
