The arrangement of flowers on the floral axis of a plant is termed as Inflorescence. It is of the following two types :
✧ Racemose Inflorescence
- It is an unbranched type of inflorescence.
- The main axis produces flowers in a lateral pattern.
- The main axis never terminates in a flower and continues to grow.
- Young flowers are present towards the top, and old flowers are present towards the bottom (or base) of the axis.
- Examples: sweet pea, mustard, etc.
✧ Cymose Inflorescence
- It is branched the type of inflorescence.
- The main axis terminates in a flower and stops growing.
- Below the terminal flower, the main axis gives rise to lateral branches (or axes) each of which terminates in a flower.
- Old flowers are present towards the top in young flowers are present towards the bottom (or base) of the axis.
- Examples: jasmine, cotton, etc.
