Irrigation canals are of two types: i) Inundation canals: Taken out directly from the rivers without constructing any barrage or dam. ii) Perennial canals: Taken out from perennial rivers by constructing barrages or dams to regulate the flow of water. Important canals in Punjab-Haryana are Sirhind, Bhakra.
