Isotopes
- Isotopes were discovered by F. Soddy.
- Isotopes are those atoms which have the same atomic number but differ in their mass numbers.
- Isotopes have identical chemical properties but differ in physical properties.
- Example-
Protium (₁H¹)
Deuterium (₁H²)
Tritium (₁H³)
Isobars
- Isobars were discovered by Alfred Walter Stewart
- Isobars are those atoms which have the same mass number but differ in their atomic numbers.
- Isobars possess different chemical and physical properties.
- Examples- ( ₁₈Ar⁴⁰, ₁₉K⁴⁰ and ₂₀Ca⁴⁰ ) , ( ₅₂Te¹³⁰, ₅₆Ba¹³⁰ )
