In 1980, Government of India introduced the concept of joint forest management (JFM) in which local communities are involved in the development and protection of degraded forests on share basis. In return for this service to the forests, the communities get benefit of various forest product such as fruits, gum, rubber, medicine etc.

Thus, the forest can be conserved in sustainable manner.
