Khanqahs were places for resting that were made for travelers by some religious groups. The main purposes that they served are:

  • These were considered the meeting place for Sufi saints. They gathered here to hold meetings.
  • They also served as a resting place for travelers and posed as a housing facility for Sufi saints.
  • Khanqahs welcomed people from all religions and races. Even royalty could come inside Khanqahs and join in the meetings of the saints.
