A meristem is a tissue in plants that consists of undifferentiated cells capable of cell division. Meristems give rise to various tissues and organs of a plant and are responsible for growth. Differentiated plant cells generally cannot divide or produce cells of a different type

Meristematic Tissue:-

  • This tissue consists of actively dividing cells and is present in the growing regions of plant i.e. the tips of roots and stems .
  • The cells can be round, oval ,polygonal and rectangular.
  • Vacuoles are almost absent in such cells.
  • They are packed closely without intercellular spaces.
  • They have a dense cytoplasm and a prominent nuclei.
