Monomers are molecules that aren't formed in a group or a pair, simply the lone molecules are marked as "monomers".
The definition of a monomer: "A molecule that is able to be bounded with other molecules which makes polymers"
so, now you know that the lone molecules are called monomers, and if the monomers are formed in a group, they're called polymers.
For example: let's talk about acetylene [H₂C=CH₂] , a monomer of acetylene is a simple lone molecule of acetylene.
When it's formed as a polymer, the molecules of acetylene will take place around each other and it will create a polymer, in this case, the polymer of acetylene is [H₂C=CH₂]n where "n" stands for the number of monomers.
Hope it helped. ^^
