Ingestion: Amoeba engulfs food with the help of pseudopodia. The cell membrane pinches off forming the food vacuole that encloses the food. Food vacuole gets associated with the enzymes.

Digestion: The enzymes act on the complex food in the food vacuole and break it down into simpler substances.

Egestion: The undigested food (waste) is expelled through its cell membrane.

Absorption and Assimilation: The digested food then diffuses throughout the cytoplasm and is utilised for its growth and development as well as reproduction.
