what do you mean by of an object is unit of area is called derived unit why?

Derived units are those which have been taken from other base units.. there are generally 7 base units which make up the other derived units.
e.g Area has unit m2.its unit is derived cz two base units "m" and "m" comine to give "m2" which is derived unit.
