Oxidative decarboxylation are oxidation reactions in which a carboxylate group is removed, forming carbon dioxide. It is of common occurance in the living organisms. One example is during the Krebs Cycle , Acetyl Coenzyme A is formed from pyruvic acid by removal of two hydrogen and one carbon dioxide molecule. This is oxidative decarboxylation

The conversion of various carbohydrates into the glycolytic pathway is called oxidative decarboxylation. hence it generally means thst oxidation of a compound followed by removal of Carbon dioxide from it.
