Power rating of electric appliance can be explain by an example:
An electric bulb is rated as hundred watt - 220 volt.
It means that if the bulb is lighted on 220 volt supply the electric power consumed by it is hundred watt .
(Simple way that 100 joule of electric energy is consumed by the bulb in one second )
(Or in other word hundred joule of electrical energy is converted in the filament of bulb into the light and heat energy in one second .)
Note for rating of appliance we calculated two things:
i The resistance of the filament of bulb when it is glowing
ii The safe limit of current which can flow through the bulb while in use .
