Redox is for describing all chemical reaction in which the oxidation number of atoms change. For example when carbon monoxide is passed over heated ferric oxide, carbon monoxide gains oxygen to form carbon dioxide. At the same time iron oxide gets reduce to metallic iron by the loss of oxygen.

chelmical reaction in which  Both the Oxidation and reduction reaction takes place , is called Redox reaction, in other words One reactant gets oxidised (Here C gets oxidised)and other gets redused ( Here Zno gets reduced).

Zno + C --------> Zn + CO
